It is most well known for the Old Faithful Geyser. It is filled with breathtaking mountains, lakes, canyons, and rivers and sits atop a supervolcano. Half of the world&#8217;s geothermal features are in Yellowstone! Jackson Hole, part of the northern sections of the valley, is a popular resort area. It is also known for having the world&#8217;s largest herd of elk.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"Independence Rock\" src=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/archived\/b7660bb50b334c9a784be936f1fe9cd8.jpg\" style=\"max-height: 500px; width: auto;\"\/>Independence Rock | Source<\/p>\n<h2>What Makes This State Special: Independence Rock<\/h2>\n<p>Independence Rock, a National Historic Landmark, is a large, rounded granite rock that is about 130 feet high and  stretching 1,900 feet long. It has been famous since at least the middle 1800&#8217;s when it became a well-known landmark along the Oregon, Mormon, and California emigrant trails. A number of the emigrants carved their names on the rock. In 1995, wolves were re-introduced to Yellowstone National Park in 1995 to return balance to the ecosystem. The seal includes a banner saying, &#8220;Equal Rights&#8221; since they were the first state to allow women to vote. The men represent the livestock and mining industries. Two pillars have lamps, that are supposed to represent Light of Knowledge. Scrolls feature the major industries of the state: oil, mines, livestock, and grain. The red on the flag symbolizes the blood of the Native Americans and pioneers who founded the state. The white represents purity and uprightness. The blue represents the skies and distant mountains. <\/p>\n<p><\/p>\n<p>Wyoming&#8217;s State Quarter Bucking Horse and Rider, which is the trademarked image for Wyoming&#8217;s license plates since the state is known as the &#8220;Cowboy State.&#8221; The quarter also features the words &#8220;The Equality State&#8221; because Wyoming was the first state to allow women suffrage.<\/p>\n<p><\/p>\n<h2>Our Favorite Children&#8217;s Books on Wyoming<\/h2>\n<p><\/p>\n<h2>Our Favorite Picture Book on Wyoming<\/h2>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.amazon.com\/dp\/158536097X?tag=hubacct7155-20&amp;linkCode=ogi&amp;th=1&amp;psc=1\"><img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"C is for Cowboy: A Wyoming Alphabet (Discover America State by State)\" src=\"https:\/\/m.media-amazon.com\/images\/I\/51wQxTxnSEL._SL160_.jpg\" style=\"max-height: 500px; width: auto;\"\/>C is for Cowboy: A Wyoming Alphabet (Discover America State by State)<\/a>This is my favorite series on individual states! Each page has a simple rhyme about a word that begins with each letter of the alphabet (perfect to read if you have younger children). Then it includes a bit more about that particular regional animal, location, etc. It provides a wonderful overview of what makes each state unique. Both modern and historical aspects of the state are includes. Plus, the illustrations are beautiful! Reading Level 2) by Stephanie Smith is a cute story about a gray wolf pup. Mis series that combines state geography with art. Each page contains something about Wyoming (a state artist, the state flag, bird, tree, capitol building, areas of interest, and animals.)
