There is so much more in Live Oak to explore and enjoy!<\/p>\n<p>Are you looking for fun, free (or inexpensive) activities, events, and field trip ideas in Live Oak, Florida in Suwannee County? Here are our favorite local locations where we go for fun and where we take guests visiting from out of town, the best local annual events, and a list of the local field trips we&#8217;ve enjoyed.<\/p>\n<p><\/p>\n<p><strong>Where we take visitors from out of town<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><\/p>\n<p>(and enjoy visiting ourselves too)<\/p>\n<p><\/p>\n<h2>Suwannee River State Park <\/h2>\n<p><a><img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"Suwannee River State Park\" src=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/archived\/19d9c5870617a306a6de07776cbe0ae6.jpg\" style=\"max-height: 500px; width: auto;\"\/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Suwannee River State Park<\/p>\n<p><a><img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"activities-for-kids-field-trips-in-live-oak-florida\" src=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/archived\/819cd718ff791262dde1ce4f72f9c56e.jpg\" style=\"max-height: 500px; width: auto;\"\/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.floridastateparks.org\/parks-and-trails\/suwannee-river-state-park\">Suwannee River State Park<\/a> is my favorite local place to hike, and we&#8217;ve hiked around dozens of state parks and Florida Trail sites. Suwannee River State Park has a variety of things to see: a huge tree you can climb into, a picturesque boardwalk bridge over water, natural springs, Civil War earthworks, remains of an old sawmill, a small playground, etc. It also has a boat ramp if you want to take out a kayak or canoe.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Popular picture:<\/strong> Inside the huge oak tree that&#8217;s hollow at the bottom<\/p>\n<p><strong>COST:<\/strong> $5\/vehicle &amp; bring cash as it\u2019s unmanned<\/p>\n<h2>Heritage Park &amp; Gardens<\/h2>\n<p><a><img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"Heritage Park and Gardens\" src=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/archived\/046e45869cab8f368e60220ca2433070.jpg\" style=\"max-height: 500px; width: auto;\"\/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Heritage Park and Gardens<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/heritageparkandgardens.com\/\">Heritage Park &amp; Gardens<\/a> offers a shaded playground, free small garden, disc golf course, &amp; nicely shaded &amp; paved walking path (about 1. 5 miles each way). They also host annual free Christmas &amp; Easter events focused mainly on children\u2019s activities.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Popular pictures:<\/strong> Along the walking trail with the sidewalk behind you and in the gardens next to the lattice areas<\/p>\n<p><strong>COST:<\/strong> Free<\/p>\n<h2>Suwannee Springs<\/h2>\n<p><a><img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"Suwannee Springs\" src=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/archived\/496a447d317231a9d2228000d13cefd9.jpg\" style=\"max-height: 500px; width: auto;\"\/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Suwannee Springs<\/p>\n<p><a><img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"activities-for-kids-field-trips-in-live-oak-florida\" src=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/archived\/e26f41400e53e25f95a4a218c072b812.jpg\" style=\"max-height: 500px; width: auto;\"\/><\/a><a><img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"Suwannee Springs Bridge (Graffiti Bridge)\" src=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/archived\/59fa1f5989fa989fa0fd649b1788f3d1.jpg\" style=\"max-height: 500px; width: auto;\"\/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Suwannee Springs Bridge (Graffiti Bridge)<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Suwannee_Springs\">Suwannee Springs<\/a> is where we head when my kids want to go swimming or when our guests ask to go to &#8220;the nearest beach.&#8221; It has a small beach area along the river, is shallow enough in most areas, and even includes a rope swing. It also has the remains of an old bath house surrounding a sulfur spring and an old bridge that is a popular place for photos. It\u2019s also a good place to go if you want to put out a kayak or canoe.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Popular picture: <\/strong>With the nearby old, abandoned bridge in the background<\/p>\n<p><strong>COST:<\/strong> Free<\/p>\n<h2>Mystic Jungle<\/h2>\n<p><a><img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"Mystic Jungle:\" src=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/archived\/b52b71e987f2a9fbf7b14a1881f3f1ae.jpg\" style=\"max-height: 500px; width: auto;\"\/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Mystic Jungle:<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/mysticjungle.org\/\">Mystic Jungle<\/a> is an educational area for displaced wild animals focused mainly on large cats. It&#8217;s open on Saturdays from 10am &#8211; 3 pm with tour times at 10 am, 12 pm, 1:30 pm and 3 pm. Private tours are generally scheduled on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Sundays.<\/p>\n<p><strong>COST:<\/strong> $10\/person. Children 3 &amp; under are free.<\/p>\n<h2>Stephen Foster State Park<\/h2>\n<p><a><img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"Stephen Foster State Park\" src=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/archived\/5296afca7088ffd2069f9abaf5887632.jpg\" style=\"max-height: 500px; width: auto;\"\/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Stephen Foster State Park<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.floridastateparks.org\/parks-and-trails\/stephen-foster-folk-culture-center-state-park\">Stephen Foster State Park<\/a> (in White Springs) has some trails, a craft village, &amp; carillon tower that still plays songs. My favorite part is the 1950s home with moving dioramas depicting Stephen Foster\u2019s songs.*If you have a few extra minutes stop by the historic <a href=\"https:\/\/www.waymarking.com\/waymarks\/WM4QJW_Spring_House_White_Springs_FL\">Spring House<\/a> which is just outside the park entrance.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Popular picture:<\/strong> In front of the Stephen Foster Museum<\/p>\n<p><strong>COST:<\/strong> $5\/vehicle<\/p>\n<h2>Falling Creek Falls<\/h2>\n<p><a><img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"Falling Creek Falls\" src=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/archived\/81d2911875071812b27e0df104b94740.jpg\" style=\"max-height: 500px; width: auto;\"\/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Falling Creek Falls<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/floridahikes.com\/fallingcreek\">Falling Creek Falls<\/a> (in Lake City) is directly off of I-10 and is one of the few places you can find a waterfall in North Florida. It has a short stroller-friendly boardwalk to the waterfall. It also has a nice, small playground and a couple historical buildings that you can see from the outside. There is also a short walking trail through the woods. Tip: Be sure to bring mosquito spray!<\/p>\n<p><strong>Popular picture:<\/strong> Overlooking the waterfall<\/p>\n<p><strong>COST:<\/strong> Free<\/p>\n<h2>Woodpecker Trail at Big Shoals State Park<\/h2>\n<p><a><img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"Woodpecker Trail\" src=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/archived\/45a30060bf6fcbc035de0270b1efa4ae.jpg\" style=\"max-height: 500px; width: auto;\"\/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Woodpecker Trail<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.floridastateparks.org\/parks-and-trails\/big-shoals-state-park\">Woodpecker Trail<\/a> in Big Shoals State Park (in White Springs) provides a great stroller-friendly hiking (or biking) path through the forest. About half the path is shaded. It also has a couple small bridges. My kids love it because we usually come across some form of wildlife (usually snakes or tortoises) while on the hikes. Unfortunately, the trail isn&#8217;t a loop, so we have to turn around eventually &amp; go back the way we came.<\/p>\n<p><strong>COST:<\/strong> $4\/vehicle &amp; bring cash as it\u2019s unmanned<\/p>\n<h2>Bell Springs<\/h2>\n<p><a><img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"Bell Springs\" src=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/archived\/b9ee474c1a91415f4eac8537f5b78e6b.jpg\" style=\"max-height: 500px; width: auto;\"\/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Bell Springs<\/p>\n<p><a><img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"activities-for-kids-field-trips-in-live-oak-florida\" src=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/archived\/4f12b5567f2d4c9adaa551edf1a197c5.jpg\" style=\"max-height: 500px; width: auto;\"\/><\/a><a><img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"activities-for-kids-field-trips-in-live-oak-florida\" src=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/archived\/97cdedec3f6246f7814fba170ccfb198.jpg\" style=\"max-height: 500px; width: auto;\"\/><\/a><a><img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"activities-for-kids-field-trips-in-live-oak-florida\" src=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/archived\/9ca3abd1f5361827a00651305f0c7b38.jpg\" style=\"max-height: 500px; width: auto;\"\/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.srwmd.state.fl.us\/161\/Big-Shoals-Falling-Creek-Bell-Springs\">Bell Springs<\/a> (in White Springs) has a nicely shaded path that has a 1.8 mile trail (orange dots) that leads to the shoals of the Suwannee River.  <\/p>\n<p><strong>COST:<\/strong> Free<\/p>\n<h2>Holton Creek <\/h2>\n<p><a><img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"Holton Creek\" src=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/archived\/969de590bc0a4672e4d680309e64696a.jpg\" style=\"max-height: 500px; width: auto;\"\/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Holton Creek<\/p>\n<p><a><img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"activities-for-kids-field-trips-in-live-oak-florida\" src=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/archived\/a0ce1b8fe323b066a7e17de0e55eee74.jpg\" style=\"max-height: 500px; width: auto;\"\/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.monumentaltrees.com\/en\/usa\/florida\/hamiltoncounty\/12249_suwanneeriverholtoncreekconservationarea\/23788\/\">Holton Creek<\/a> (7092 Co Rd 249 in Jasper in Hamilton County) has a couple enormous trees (a record-holding bald cypress &amp; a giant oak tree that is at least 150 years old) and is a beautiful place to hike along the Florida Trail.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Popular picture:<\/strong> next to the champion bald cypress tree<\/p>\n<p><strong>COST:<\/strong> Free<\/p>\n<h2>First Federal Sportsplex Playground<\/h2>\n<p><a><img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"First Federal Sportsplex Playground\" src=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/archived\/a24c4427d37584cc608b02cd40fa52c1.jpg\" style=\"max-height: 500px; width: auto;\"\/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>First Federal Sportsplex Playground<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/visitsuwannee.com\/parks\">First Federal Sportsplex Playground<\/a> is probably the best playground in town. My children especially love the zipline. We also enjoy the stroller-friendly 1\/3 mile loop around the park. Grabbing some pizzas &amp; heading to the park is the perfect day for my kids.<\/p>\n<p><strong>COST:<\/strong> Free<\/p>\n<h2>Charles, Little River, &amp; Royal Springs<\/h2>\n<p><a><img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"Charles Spring\" src=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/archived\/db302c5d949108bded7a660ee510c7d0.jpg\" style=\"max-height: 500px; width: auto;\"\/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Charles Spring<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/suwanneeparks.com\/charles-springs\/\">Charles Spring<\/a> is our favorite spring for little children as the run from the spring to the river is about 2 &#8211; 4 feet deep, so it&#8217;s perfect for younger children who want to run around in the water. It also has a limestone rock from which older children can enjoy jumping into the water. <a href=\"https:\/\/suwanneeparks.com\/little-river-springs-2\/\">Little River Spring<\/a> has a few shallow areas around the edge but a steeper drop off in the middle. If you only have older children, they&#8217;d probably enjoy <a href=\"https:\/\/suwanneeparks.com\/royal-springs-2\/\">Royal Springs<\/a>. The key to enjoying any of these springs is you need to go during the week in the morning. They tend to fill up on weekends throughout the year, and even during the week they can get crowded around noon.<\/p>\n<p><strong>COST:<\/strong> Little River is $5\/vehicle. Royal Springs might be $5\/vehicle. Charles Spring is free.<\/p>\n<h2>Suwannee County Historical Museum<\/h2>\n<p><a><img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"Suwannee County Historical Museum\" src=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/archived\/9b946b0dcfb55f4738cd0ec69d7145f7.jpg\" style=\"max-height: 500px; width: auto;\"\/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Suwannee County Historical Museum<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/suwanneehistory.com\/\">Suwannee County Historical Museum<\/a> was just renovated and reopened. We used to take visitors there before it had closed, and we enjoyed the historic articles we could view and handle while learning about our county&#8217;s history. We&#8217;re looking forward to being able to again visit the museum. It&#8217;s open on Friday and Saturday from 10 AM \u2013 4 PM.<\/p>\n<p><strong>COST:<\/strong> Free<\/p>\n<h2>Suwannee River Regional Library<\/h2>\n<p><a><img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"Suwannee River Regional Library\" src=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/archived\/b45280b29a070a2881a753bc8d94b84d.jpg\" style=\"max-height: 500px; width: auto;\"\/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Suwannee River Regional Library<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/srrlib.org\/client\/en_US\/default\">Suwannee River Regional Library<\/a> offers a number of great events including monthly talks, recipe swaps, bluegrass concerts, book clubs, craft projects, presentations, movie showings, &amp; more.
