In an effort to make world geography more meaningful and memorable, I&#8217;ve compiled all you will need to locate Qatar on a map, cook a Qatari meal, watch YouTube clips on Qatar, color the flag, create a Qatari craft, read a great book about Qatar, and more! This is part of a series of lessons I did with my family while studying various countries from around the world. Mark other relevant features (rivers, mountains, famous locations, etc.) if desired.  If you&#8217;d like to spend a bit more time researching the country, you can add the language, currency, type of government, religion, and\/or famous landmarks. Write them on the back of the map. At one time, Qataris owned nearly 1\/3 of the Persian Gulf fishing fleet. In the early 1900s, Japan&#8217;s cultured-pearl industry caused a sharp decline in Qatar&#8217;s pearling industry.<\/p>\n<p><a><img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"q-is-for-qatar\" src=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/archived\/7bdd0bfd7faeede88957894d0f153d9c.png\" style=\"max-height: 500px; width: auto;\"\/><\/a><\/p>\n<h2>Qatar&#8217;s Flag<\/h2>\n<p>Print and color <a href=\"http:\/\/www.edupics.com\/coloring-page-flag-qatar-i6306.html\">the flag of Qatar<\/a> and learn the history and meaning of it from <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Flag_of_Qatar\">Flag_of_Qatar <\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><a><img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"q-is-for-qatar\" src=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/archived\/9f586d056134eebee7f3913af9c41a2b.jpg\" style=\"max-height: 500px; width: auto;\"\/><\/a><\/p>\n<h2>Qatari meal<\/h2>\n<p>Prepare and serve Makloubeh, a salad of chopped tomatoes and cucumbers, pita bread (store-bought), hummus (store-bought), hot sweetened tea (you can add mint, milk, and\/or cardamom if you like), and Om Ali. Be sure to NOT use utensils for your main meal. Use the pita bread to scoop up\/pinch the Makloubeh, salad, and hummus. Use only your right hand for eating. You can use a spoon for the Om Ali.<\/p>\n<p><a><img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"type=text\" src=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/archived\/1de779e62398c7ebe83e324c8ea93a68.jpg\" style=\"max-height: 500px; width: auto;\"\/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>type=text<\/p>\n<h2>Makloubeh<\/h2>\n<p>If you can get whole wheat, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.food.com\/recipe\/al-harees-a-family-recipe-traditional-qatari-iraqi-352229\">Al Harees<\/a> would be another good main dish option as it is also a popular dish in Qatar.<\/p>\n<p>Prep timeCook timeReady inYields<\/p>\n<p>10 min<\/p>\n<p>30 min<\/p>\n<p>40 min<\/p>\n<p>6-8<\/p>\n<h2>Ingredients<\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>1 large head of cauliflower<\/li>\n<li>2 lb. cubed beef or lamb meat or chicken<\/li>\n<li>salt and pepper<\/li>\n<li>oil for frying<\/li>\n<li>1 tsp.  allspice<\/li>\n<li>3 1\/2 c.  beef broth<\/li>\n<li>2 tbsp.  pine nuts<\/li>\n<li>1 large chopped onion<\/li>\n<li>1\/8 tsp.  cinnamon<\/li>\n<li>2 c.  rice<\/li>\n<li>1\/2 c.  toasted sliced almonds or pine nuts (for garnish)<\/li>\n<li>plain yogurt (for serving)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2>Instructions<\/h2>\n<ol>\n<li>Break the cauliflower into medium-size flowerets. Sprinkle with salt and pepper. Fry in deep, hot oil until golden brown. Drain on paper towels. In a 4-quart pot, saut\u00c3\u00a9 onion and meat. Cover meat with cauliflower, allspice, cinnamon, and then rice. Add broth to cover the rice. Bring to boil and then lower heat. Cook on low heat until done, about 25 minutes. Let cool for 1\/2 hour, then turn pot upside down in a large platter and garnish with toasted pine nuts or almonds. Serve with yogurt.<\/li>\n<li>VARIATION: Follow directions for cauliflower, replacing 2 large eggplants for cauliflower. Peel eggplants, slice 1\/2 inch thick, sprinkle with salt and let drain for 1\/2 hour. Squeeze water off of eggplant and fry in hot oil until golden brown. Drain over paper towels. (This recipe came from cooks.com.)<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p><a><img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"Om Ali\" src=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/archived\/bf8c695704318a7fa5462b8c3cbf2444.jpg\" style=\"max-height: 500px; width: auto;\"\/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Om Ali<\/p>\n<h2>Om Ali<\/h2>\n<p>This is quite similar to bread pudding with raisins, coconut, &amp; nuts.<\/p>\n<p>Prep timeCook timeReady inYields<\/p>\n<p>30 min<\/p>\n<p>5 min<\/p>\n<p>35 min<\/p>\n<p>6-8<\/p>\n<h2>Ingredients<\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>1\/2 (17.5 ounce) package thawed frozen puff pastry sheets OR 4 large croissants<\/li>\n<li>1 1\/4 cup  chopped nuts (any mixture of walnuts or pecans and\/or hazelnuts)<\/li>\n<li>1\/2 cup  raisins<\/li>\n<li>1\/2 cup  flaked coconut<\/li>\n<li>3\/4 + 1\/8 cups sugar (divided)<\/li>\n<li>2 cups  milk<\/li>\n<li>1\/2 cup  heavy cream<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2>Instructions<\/h2>\n<ol>\n<li>Preheat oven to 400F. Place the pastry sheets on a baking sheet and bake for 15 minutes or until the top layer turns crunchy and golden. Alternatively, simply use 4 large croissants.  Break cooked pastry or croissants into pieces.  Preheat the oven broiler. In a bowl, combine nuts, raisins, coconut and 1\/8 cup sugar and mix into pastry mixture. Spread mixture evenly in a 9&#215;9 inch dish that has been sprayed with non-stick spray. Bring milk and 1\/4 cup sugar to a boil in a medium saucepan over medium heat and then pour it over the nut mixture. Beat the heavy cream with the remaining 1\/2 cup sugar until stiff peaks form. Spread evenly over nut mixture in dish. Place dessert under oven broiler until top is golden brown, about 10 minutes. Serve hot. Strands of camel, goat or sheep hair is wrapped around a hand-held wooden \u201cnool\u201d or spindle, with which the weaver spins the wool around until it becomes a thread.  The wool is then died with traditional the traditional colors of red and black. The weaver uses a loom to weave the wool into carpets, tents and cushions.
