Henri Matisse & Paper Collage Art Lesson for Early Elementary<\/p>\n

This is part of a series of 26 hands-on art lessons for Kindergarten and 1st grade. This lesson focuses on collages inspired by Henri Matisse. I used this plan while teaching a weekly 45 minute art class for children in Kindergarten and 1st grade. Each lesson includes an art concept, introductory book, focus on an artist, and a variety of art techniques to make each lesson engaging & memorable. Henri Matisse’s Paper Cut-out Collages<\/h2>\n

  1. To introduce the concept of Matisse’s painting with scissors and collages, read Matisse’s Garden by Samantha Friedman.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

    You will need:<\/strong> Matisse’s Garden by Samantha Friedman or other children’s book about Matisse and his paper collages<\/p>\n
