This is the culminating project following a unit study on Leonardo da Vinci: The Artist, Scientist, & Inventor. Children will present on Leonardo da Vinci’s works of art and inventions and then will enjoy an Italian meal together. Also included is our field trip for this unit. These lessons are geared toward 3rd-4th grade level children and their siblings. They were created by another creative teacher for a weekly homeschool co-op. Presentations<\/h2>\n

Children will each select a famous work of art or an invention by Leonardo da Vinci. They will display a replica (painting, model, etc.) of the piece of art or invention while giving a 5 minute presentation on it.<\/p>\n

Leonardo da Vinci Themed Meal<\/h2>\n

Following the presentations, have a Leonardo-themed meal. He did not write much about food, so we don’t really know what he ate. Some claim he was a vegetarian. We do know he invented a convection meat roasting spit, so you can include rotisserie-style chicken with your meal.<\/p>\n

For a Florentine Meal You Can Serve:<\/p>\n

Antipasti (Hors d’oeuvres): Fettunta: Italian Bread slices and dipping oil with garlic and fresh herbs<\/p>\n

Primi piatti (First course): Spaghetti alla carbonara<\/p>\n

Zuppe e Minestre (Soup): Pasta e fagioli<\/p>\n

Contorni (Side dish): Verdure grigliate: Grilled vegetables<\/p>\n

Dolci e biscotti (Desserts): Tiramisu & Cenci Cookies<\/p>\n

“Vino (Wine)”: White grape juice<\/p>\n

During this unit study we visited our local art museum<\/a>. We did spend some time attempting to sketch the gardens using proper perspective.<\/p>\n
