My boys loves this comic book style account of the bombing of Pearl Harbor. They learned almost as much from it as they would have from a longer chapter book. Only 2 known native mammals, the monk seal and the hoary bat, can occasionally be spotted. In Hawaii more bird species have become extinct than anywhere else in the entire world. Underwater there are about 680 fish species &amp; 40 species of sharks. At various points in history the Russian, French, and British all laid claim to the islands. It is a longer picture book but is absolutely fascinating and has wonderful illustrations! Also look for &#8220;Rhinos Who Surf&#8221; by Julie Mammano. It is a very short, cute picture book that includes vocabulary used by surfers. We also loved &#8220;How to Draw Hawaii&#8217;s Sights and Symbols&#8221; which isn&#8217;t a picture book.
