Mark other relevant features (rivers, mountains, famous locations, etc.) if desired. If you&#8217;d like to spend a bit more time researching the country, you can add the language, currency, type of government, religion, and\/or famous landmarks. Write them on the back of the map. They also used to play a game using large stones set up as pins and small stones as a ball, which was quite similar to the bowling we do today.<\/li>\n<p><\/p>\n<li>Egyptians invented the 365 days calendar and the 24-hour division of the day. Egyptians were also among the very first people to invent writing, along with ink and paper.<\/li>\n<p><\/p>\n<li>Apart from the Nile River, most of the land in Egypt is desert. If you&#8217;re short on time, simply use a can of garbanzo beans\/chickpeas instead of the lentils.<\/p>\n<p>Prep timeCook timeReady inYields<\/p>\n<p>10 min<\/p>\n<p>35 min<\/p>\n<p>45 min<\/p>\n<p>6 if a main dish, 10-12 if a side dish<\/p>\n<h2>Ingredients<\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>1 cup brown lentils or garbanzo beans\/chickpeas<\/li>\n<li>1\/2 teaspoon of salt<\/li>\n<li>1 cup rice (basmati is preferable)<\/li>\n<li>1 cup uncooked pasta (small shells or elbow macaroni are preferable)<\/li>\n<li>2 large disced onions<\/li>\n<li>4 minced cloves of garlic<\/li>\n<li>2 tablespoons oil<\/li>\n<li>1 (14.5 oz) can chopped or crushed tomatoes<\/li>\n<li>1\/4 teaspoon crushed red chili pepper flakes (or more to taste)<\/li>\n<li>salt and black pepper<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2>Instructions<\/h2>\n<ol>\n<li>In a large saucepan, add about 5 cups of water, 1\/2 teaspoon of salt, and lentils or garbanzo beans\/chickpeas. Bring to a boil, cover, reduce heat, &amp; simmer for 15-30 minutes, or until tender. Add the rice to the lentils and add more water if needed. Simmer 20 minutes or until the rice is tender. In a separate pan, cook the pasta according to package directions. While the pasta cooks, saute the onions and garlic in the oil about 5 minutes, or until golden. Add the tomatoes, red pepper flakes, and salt &amp; pepper to taste and let it simmer 10 minutes, or until it has thickened. Combine the lentils, rice, and pasta together. Serve the tomato sauce over the bed of lentils\/rice\/pasta. If your family is okay with a vegetarian dinner, then you can skip making this.<\/p>\n<h2>Cook Time<\/h2>\n<p><strong>Prep Time:<\/strong> 10 minutes<\/p>\n<p><strong>Total Time:<\/strong> 8+ hours for marinating + 40 minutes<\/p>\n<p><strong>Serves:<\/strong> 4-6<\/p>\n<h2>Ingredients<\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>3 lbs. boneless skinless chicken breasts or chicken legs<\/li>\n<li>4 garlic cloves (crushed)<\/li>\n<li>1 cup  olive oil<\/li>\n<li>1 cup  fresh lemon juice<\/li>\n<li>1\/2 teaspoon  lemon zest<\/li>\n<li>2 teaspoons  dried oregano<\/li>\n<li>salt and pepper<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2>Instructions<\/h2>\n<ol>\n<li>Combine all ingredients in a glass dish and let the chicken marinate 8+ hours in the refrigerator. Remove chicken from marinade. If grilling, cook chicken for approximately 25 minutes, brushing with marinade, turning once during cooking. If baking, cook chicken at 375 for about 40 minutes, turning once. (This recipe came from food.com.)<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<h2>Egyptian Feta and Cucumber Salad<\/h2>\n<p><a><img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"Egyptian Feta and Cucumber Salad\" src=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/archived\/976b3840ddb1d6b8d289bffd55d941f5.jpg\" style=\"max-height: 500px; width: auto;\"\/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Egyptian Feta and Cucumber Salad<\/p>\n<p>Prep timeCook timeReady inYields<\/p>\n<p>10 min<\/p>\n<p>25 min<\/p>\n<p>35 min<\/p>\n<p>6<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>2 large peeled cucumbers<\/li>\n<li>salt<\/li>\n<li>2 tablespoons chopped fresh mint<\/li>\n<li>6 ounces feta<\/li>\n<li>1\/4 cup finely chopped scallion or green onion<\/li>\n<li>2 tablespoons lemon juice or 2 tablespoons white wine vinegar<\/li>\n<li>1 teaspoon olive oil<\/li>\n<li>freshly ground black pepper<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2>Instructions<\/h2>\n<ol>\n<li>Score the cucumbers with the tines of a fork, and cut them in half lengthwise. Remove the seeds. (A grapefruit spoon or melon baller works well.) Sprinkle the cucumbers with salt, and let them sit in a colander in the sink for about 30 minutes to release some of the moisture from the cucumbers.  Rinse and then slice the cucumbers into 1\/2 inch chunks or thin slices.<\/li>\n<li>In a medium serving bowl, crush the feta with a fork and mix it with the scallions, lemon juice, oil, and pepper.  Combine the cucumber chunks with the cheese mixture.  Sprinkle the salad with the mint.  Serve within an hour. (This recipe came from food.com.)<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<h2>Baklava<\/h2>\n<p><a><img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"Baklava\" src=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/archived\/7545c1e7a3c451820cbf93208bcb1455.jpg\" style=\"max-height: 500px; width: auto;\"\/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Baklava<\/p>\n<p>Prep timeCook timeReady inYields<\/p>\n<p>20 min<\/p>\n<p>30 min<\/p>\n<p>50 min<\/p>\n<p>20<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>1 box thawed phyllo\/filo dough (found near the desserts in the frozen food department)<\/li>\n<li>1 cup finely chopped walnuts<\/li>\n<li>1\/2 cup sugar<\/li>\n<li>1 teaspoon cinnamon<\/li>\n<li>1 cup melted butter<\/li>\n<li>1 cup sugar<\/li>\n<li>1\/2 cup water<\/li>\n<li>1 teaspoon lemon juice<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2>Instructions<\/h2>\n<ol>\n<li>Unfold the phyllo dough and cut it in half, trimming it to fit in a 9&#215;13&#8243; casserole dish. Place 1\/2 of the dough in the pan. Combine the walnuts, 1\/2 cup of sugar, and cinnamon, and spread it over the phyllo dough. Cover the walnut mixture with the 2nd half of the dough. Using a serrated knife, cut into triangles\/diamonds. Drizzle evenly with the melted butter. Bake at 350 F for approximately 30 minutes, or until golden brown.<\/li>\n<li>While baklava is baking, prepare the syrup by placing 1 cup sugar, water, and lemon juice in a pan and bringing it to boil. Simmer the syrup mixture for 5 minutes, stirring occasionally. When the baklava comes out of the oven, pour the syrup over the hot baklava.
