We had a colonial-themed dinner and the children each dressed up as a famous person from the American Revolution time period and presented on him\/her. My lessons are geared toward 2nd-3rd grade level children and their siblings. These are lessons I created to do with a weekly homeschool co-op. We meet each week for 2 1\/2 hours and have 14 children between the ages of 0-12. <strong>Use these fun lessons with your class, family, homeschool co-op group, after school program, or camp!<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><a><img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"type=text\" src=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/archived\/e73e61af131c545559537f3e46eb3850.jpg\" style=\"max-height: 500px; width: auto;\"\/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>type=text<\/p>\n<h2>American Revolutionary War Themed Dinner<\/h2>\n<p>First we had an American Revolutionary War themed dinner. Each family brought 1 main dish and 1 side dish or dessert to share. If desired, they could bring colonial-style food (as that&#8217;s what people were still cooking during the American War for Independence). (Tune: Yankee Doodle):<\/p>\n<p>Virginia, Georgia, Delaware, and North Carolina;<\/p>\n<p>Massachusetts, Maryland, and South Carolina.<\/p>\n<p>Pennsylvania, New York,<\/p>\n<p>New Hampshire and New Jersey,<\/p>\n<p>Rhode Island and Connecticut:<\/p>\n<p>These were the thirteen colonies!<\/p>\n<p>Then each child presented on their assigned person. They dressed up like him\/her. Some children also displayed a portrait they had drawn or painted and some children showed their reports if they wrote one.<\/p>\n<p>I had my oldest son write a report. As we read an 80 page biography on his assigned person, I had him write three main ideas\/events after each chapter and then draw a picture to illustrate what had occurred in that chapter. As a family we also went to an art museum to see some portraits made during this time period. If you live close to a battlefield, then go by there.
