CC Cycle 2 Fun Lessons for Home Study to Enrich Weekly Sentences – Books and activities
Each week my family enjoys reading children’s books, doing activities, and watching YouTube video clips related to our new grammar. Memorizing the CC grammar is completely sufficient, but if you’d like to add a bit more, here is what my family has enjoyed reading, doing, & watching related to the science sentence, history sentence, or geography sentence. So we can dig deeper, we only focus on one subject per week.
Week 1 History: Charlemagne and the Medieval Period
Playing Hoodman’s Blind (today called Blind Man’s Bluff) is one of the activities we did while learning more about the medieval period and the history sentence.
Cooking and eating a simple medieval meal, playing medieval games, and decorating crowns and scepters are some of the activities we did while learning more about the history sentence. Week 2 Science: Land Biomes
Creating Deciduous Forest Leaf Rubbings is one of the activities we did this week while learning about land biomes
Creating leaf rubbings, assembling rain forest terrariums, making pine needle tea, and experimenting with forms of animal insulation are some of the activities we did while learning more about this week’s science sentence on land biomes. Week 3 History: The Crusades & Knights
Making cardboard shields & swords was one of the activities we did this week at home during our History Morning Basket & Activities time on Knights & the Crusades.
Creating a Coat of Arms and swords, holding a jousting tournament with pool noodles, and acting out a knighting ceremony are some of the activities we did while learning more about the history sentence. Week 4 Science: Parts of the Food Chain
Creating a Food Chain and a Food Pyramid were one of the activities we did this week at home during our Science Morning Basket & Activities.
Playing “Predator & Prey”, making a paper food chain and food chain pyramid, and playing the “Camouflage Candy” game are some of the activities we did while learning more about this week’s science sentence on parts of the food chain. Week 5 History: The Hundreds Years War and Medieval Art
Creating & baking Stained Glass Window Cookies is one of the activities we did while learning more about the history sentence.
Mixing together and painting with egg yolk paint, designing and eating stained glass window cookies, and creating colorful tapestries are some of the activities we did while learning more about the history sentence this week. Week 6 History: The Renaissance & Leonardo da Vinci
Designing a replica of Leonardo da Vinci’s parachute design was one of the activities we did this week during our History Morning Basket & Activities time: Leonardo da Vinci & The Renaissance.
Creating replicas of Leonardo da Vinci’s ornithopter and parachute are two of the activities we did while learning more about the history sentence this week. Leonardo da Vinci was also a famous artist and scientist. Week 7 History: The Reformation
Nailing copies of the “Ninety-five Theses” was one of the activities we did this week during our History Morning Basket & Activities time on the Protestant Reformation.
Nailing the Ninety-Five Theses to the Wittenberg Door, eating gummy worms for the Diet of Worms, and folding Tulip origami are some of the activities we did while learning more about the history sentence this week. Week 8 History: European Explorers
Pretending to journey through “Panama” on the way to the Pacific like Balboa was one of the activities we did this week while learning about European Explorers.
Making Da Gama Portuguese land markers, Vespucci parrot puppets, and Balboa hiding-in-a-barrel stick puppets; searching for the Pacific Ocean with Balboa (through our house); and eating “sawdust” and “leather” with Magellan and his men are some of the activities we did while learning more about the history sentence this week. Week 9 History : Absolute Monarch Peter the Great of Russia
Practicing military drills like Peter the Great loved to do was one of the activities we did this week related to the History of Russia during our History Morning Basket & Activities time.
Constructing a model of the Red Square, attempting Cossack-style dancing, and decorating eggs like Carl Faberge, are some of the activities we did while learning more about the history sentence this week. Week 10 Science : The Planets
Making planet pizzas was one of the activities we did this week related to the planets during our Science Morning Basket & Activities time.

Week 11 Science : Phases of the Moon
Creating phases of the moon using Oreo cookies was one of the activities we did this week during our Science Morning Basket & Activities time.
Forming the lunar phases using Oreo cookies, dropping balls in flour to make a crater-filled lunar surface, and recreating Galileo’s famous gravity experiment are some of the activities we did while learning more about this week’s science sentence on the phases of the moon. Week 12 Science : Other Bodies in Our Solar System
Creating a Comet on a Stick was one of the activities we did this week related to other bodies in our solar system during our Science Morning Basket & Activities time.
Making comets; sampling “comets” (ice cream); and using rocks, magnets, and plastic wrap to compare the differences between meteors, meteoroids, meteors, and meteorites are some of the activities we did while learning more about this week’s science sentence on other bodies in our solar system. Week 13 Science : U.S. Space Missions
Creating balloon rockets was one of the activities we did this week related to U.S. Space Missions during our Science Morning Basket & Activities time.

Week 14 Science: States of Matter
Observing water in 3 different states of matter was one of the activities we did this week during our Science Morning Basket & Activities time.
Watching various items change states of matter and creating edible models of molecules are some of the activities we did while learning more about this week’s science sentence on states of matter. Week 15 History : World War I Countries
Playing with blocks and comparing them to treaties between countries was one of the activities we did this week while learning about World War I during our History Morning Basket & Activities time.
Having a World War I-inspired paper plane dogfight, using paper balls or Nerf guns for trench warfare, and studying World War I art are some of the activities we did while learning more about the history sentence this week. Week 16 Science: Newton’s First Law of Motion
Racing cars down ramps was one of the activities we did this week while learning about Newton’s First Law of Motion during our Science Morning Basket & Activities time.

Science Activity Week 18 : Paper Airplanes
Testing out various paper plane designs was one of the activities we did this week during out Science Morning Basket & Activities time.
Creating various types of paper airplanes in order to examine the relationship between plane design and the four forces of flight was what we did to prepare for next week’s science activity. Science Activity Week 19: Building Bridges
Creating grape and toothpick bridge structures was one of the activities we did this week during out Science Morning Basket & Activities time related to building bridges.
Building grape and toothpick truss bridges, piecing together a play-doh arch bridge, and acting out the forces involved in bridge building are some of the activities we did to prepare for next week’s science activity. Week 20 Science : Second Law of Thermodynamics
One of the many fun activities we did while learning about Newton’s laws of motion and the laws of Thermodynamics
This week our Science Morning Basket & Activities will simply be reading the physics sections from Exploring Creation with Chemistry & Physics by Jeannie Fulbright each day and doing the fun activities. It covers Newton’s laws of motion and the laws of thermodynamics. Save the first part of the book (chemistry) for Cycle 3 when you’ll be diving further into chemistry.
Week 21 Geography : Honduras
Creating a Honduran meal was one of the activities we did this week during our Geography Morning Basket & Activities time.
In addition to reading through and doing experiments from the physics section of Exploring Creation with Chemistry & Physics by Jeannie Fulbright, we created a meal and a craft from Honduras while learning more about the geography locations this week. I included our activities and favorite books and YouTube videos.
Week 22 History : The Fall of Communism
Building a wall and then knocking it down was one of the activities we did this week while studying the fall of communism during our History Morning Basket & Activities time.
Recreating Kandinsky’s and Marc Chagall’s works, building and then knocking down a model of the Berlin Wall, decorating pysanky eggs, and making and eating kulich are some of the activities we did while learning more about the history sentence this week. I included our activities and favorite books at the beginning of this lesson and included more of our favorite related picture books and YouTube videos toward the bottom of the above post.
Week 23 Fine Arts : Orchestra Overview
Playing tunes using water glasses was one of the activities we did this week during our Fine Arts Morning Basket & Activities time.
In addition to reading through and doing experiments from the physics section of Exploring Creation with Chemistry & Physics by Jeannie Fulbright, viewed the inside of a piano and learned how it works, studied pitch while playing water glasses, and tested out different instruments while learning more about Fine Arts and the Orchestra this week. I included our activities and favorite books and YouTube videos.
Week 24 Science : Measuring Electricity
Playing with static electricity was one of the activities we did while learning about the electricity during our Science Morning Basket & Activities time.
Watching static electricity lift hair and separate salt and pepper, building and testing circuits and switches using household materials, and playing an electron game to demonstrate how they cause electricity are some of the activities we did while learning more about this week’s science sentence on the units used to measure electricity.
